Weekly Choice Expands Distribution into Petoskey Area

Beginning with this edition of the Weekly Choice we are changing some of our distribution area of the popular regional newspaper. The paper is expanding the distribution area of the Weekly Choice to include Petoskey, Harbor Springs and nearby areas in Emmet County. This will add more distribution to the paper and reach an affluent market for both advertisers and readers.
According to Dave Baragrey 2, General Manager, “We are encouraged by the warm reception we are receiving form Petoskey area businesses. Many businesses we have spoken to in Gaylord, Cheboygan, Grayling and Petoskey are excited about the additional area. Petoskey and Harbor Springs are great towns and affluent markets.” Dave 2 added, “There are some businesses that advertise with us now that have locations in Petoskey. They are thrilled with the idea of being able to advertise in just one paper and cover such a large area that includes Gaylord, Petoskey, Cheboygan, Grayling and the many other towns we distribute the Weekly Choice to.”
While new areas being added to the distribution, there are some towns that will no longer receive the Weekly Choice. The April 23, 2009 edition of the paper was the final delivery to Roscommon, Higgins Lake, Rogers City, Posen, Hawks, Millersburg and St. Ignace.
Publisher Dave Baragrey 1 said, “We are bucking the trend! Our free distribution newspaper is growing in popularity throughout Northern Michigan. While newspapers all around the nation are closing and cutting back, we are expanding.” In recent months the nation has seen newspapers close in major cities including Ann Arbor, MI, Seattle, WA, Denver, CO and even nearby small town newspapers in Boyne City and Elk Rapids. Many other newspapers around the nation have filed bankruptcy or cutback days of publication. “We are striking a chord with readers with our positive news, community events and high school sports,” said Dave 1. “By adding this new distribution area we expect our advertisers to get even better response and readers will enjoy finding out what is going on around the region.”
Baragrey added, “With the economy struggling we are continuing to offer a great value to both readers and advertisers. Our display advertising rate is substantially lower than most papers in the area and classified ads still start at $2.00. In spite of increased costs for the added distribution area, we are going to try and hold our current pricing on advertising as well as continue to offer the paper free to readers.”
The Weekly Choice is distributed free of charge to towns throughout 8 Northern Michigan Counties; Otsego, Crawford, Cheboygan, Oscoda, Montmorency, Presque Isle, Antrim and beginning with this paper…Emmet County.
